About us
David and Melisa
We are a married couple who have settled in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. We work with families and children in and around this community.
Our work is personal. We drive families to medical appointments, help pay for medicine, lab tests, and therapy, teach an English class for teenagers, and share meals in people’s homes. Those visits turn into friendships, and the friendships show us where help is needed most.
David
David founded Urban Angels in 2015, after the International Children’s Network invited him to the villages of the Colca Valley in Peru. He has a lifelong commitment to community service and has worked as a financial advisor since 1995. His personal contribution covers all of Urban Angels’ fundraising and administrative costs.
Melisa
Melisa works closely with the families we serve, especially the mothers, and encourages the daily physical therapy their children need.
How we work
Basic needs first
When we begin working with a community, we first help with food, clothing, and health care.
Education
Through after-school programs, we teach English, community leadership, and emotional development to secondary students.
Local leadership
We work alongside local leaders to find the families in greatest need, and our programs are led by members of the community.
